Facts about the Bard #1


In all of his work - the plays, sonnets and narrative poems - Shakespeare uses 17, 677 words: of those, 1700 were first used by Shakespeare. Among these words are:

suspicious

gnarled

inauspicious

obscene

bloody

castigate

frugal

generous

road

dexterously

How bland would our language be without these words? And this is but a handful...
