The Synopsis

Wendy Everly knew she was different the day her mother tried to kill her and accused her of having been switched at birth. Although she's certain she's not the monster her mother claimed she is, she does feel that she doesn't quite fit in...

The new girl in high school, Wendy is bored and frustrated by her small town life- and then there's the secret she can't tell anyone. Her mysterious ability - she can influence people's decisions, without knowing how or why...

When the intense and darkly handsome newcomer Finn suddenly turns up at her bedroom window one night - her world is turned upside down. He holds the key to her past, the answers to her strange powers and is the doorway to a place she never imagined could exist...

The Review

I don't want to give any spoilers, so I am going to tread very lightly to avoid giving too much away. This book has made me reconsider the way I think of trolls. I never thought that I would think of them as anything more than the ghastly think in The Billy Goats Gruff or that weird thing with the funky hair that you put on your pencil in the 90s. But Laura Hocking has managed to change the way I think of trolls.

This book starts off a little slow, with the background to the story being sketched, but then it gains momentum and goes very quickly, you simply cannot stand to put it down, because you just HAVE to know what is going to happen to Wendy! What is she going to do, what will she decide. And then you get to the end - which obviously is a cliff hanger, and you are so frustrated because you are so hooked and HAVE to know what happens next. And this is where you find solace, book 2 is due to be released soon. I wait with bated breath for Torn which is due to be released 1 March 2011.

Go out and get yourself a copy of this wonderful book, and you too will understand why they say that this much excitement has not existed about a series since Twilight.
